Doody Calls In Virginia Beach

Barnhart is opening a Doody Calls yard cleaning franchise in Virginia Beach. He's practicing by picking up doggie doo in his neighbors' yards.

Barnhart says he used to be so repulsed by the notion, he hired a service to do it for his dog. Now, he hopes to have his yard cleaning business up and running in the Virginia resort city by December.

While scooping doesn't have much social status, Barnhart says he's not out to impress anyone. The semiretired shipping company executive notes he's already married.

Men's Soccer: George Mason edges TU on penalty kicks Friday

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - For the third time in two years and second in a week, No. 15 Towson and George Mason required extra time to determine a winner. Following a second half goal by the Patriots' Dan Ames, the two sides entered overtime to decide the CAA Tournament semifinal match in Virginia Beach, Va.
Despite out-shooting the Patriots, 10-2, in the two overtime periods, the Tigers were unable to score and the contest moved to penalty kicks.
Junior midfielder Pat Healey was first to shoot, converting his chance. Junior T.J. Thompson and senior Sebastian Haensel followed, also scoring their shots. Of the first three shots for the Patriots, goalkeeper Billy Chiles saved one, giving Towson the advantage, 3-2.
Shooting fourth for the Tigers was freshman Kevin Ruck, who aimed for the low-right corner, where Mason goalkeeper Sean Kelley stopped it.

Hofstra captures third consecutive CAA soccer title

VIRGINIA BEACH -- Second-seeded Hofstra claimed its third consecutive CAA men's soccer championship, prevailing 3-2 on penalty kicks over No. 4-seeded George Mason after the two squads battled through a 1-1 double-overtime tie yesterday at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex.

Wife, in-laws charged with trying to kill Va. Beach officer

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. Police have charged the wife and mother-in-law of a Virginia Beach police officer with trying to kill the officer as he slept in his bed.

The officer fought off his attackers in the pre-dawn darkness this morning. After turning on a lamp, he realized the intruders were his wife, mother-in-law and brother-in-law. Police spokeswoman Rene Ball says the officer held off the three at gunpoint until his fellow officers could arrive. Ball says the attack took place as the couple's two children slept in another room. Ball says the three have been arrested and charged with attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder. Virginia Beach schools told to end 9:05 am lunches

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- High school students who have been sitting down to lunch as early as 9:05 a.m. will eat at a more reasonable hour next school year.

The state Department of Education has ruled eight Virginia Beach schools that start lunch before 10 a.m. will have to change their schedules next year. The department allowed the schools to continue to serve early lunches for the remainder of the 2006-07 school year.

Federal guidelines require school lunch to be served between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

The public schools requested a waiver last month because crowding and scheduling problems require some schools to serve lunch several hours before the traditional noon meal.

They said few students complained about the early lunches.

Some schools in Norfolk, Newport News and York County also have lunches before 10 a.m.
